The Duero River Basin Authority has entrusted OFITECO with the project drafting for the correction of the hydromorphological alterations in the water masses in the provinces of León, Salamanca, Ávila, Zamora and Orense.

OFITECO offers its specialisation in the field of river restoration to contribute to achieve the goals set by the Duero River Basin Authority in its strategy for the improvement of the condition of the landmasses and river connectivity in the watershed.

Correction of hydromorphological alterations in water masses

The main objective of the Strategy of actions in riverbeds for the improvement of the condition of water masses and river connectivity in the Duero Basin is to define the guidelines to improve the river management and to preserve the ecosystems in the river basin.

This strategy is a continuation of the actions to improve the longitudinal and lateral continuity carried out within the National Strategy for River Restoration (ENRR) and is part of the Programme of Measures of the Hydrological plan of the Spanish part of the Duero watershed, approved in June 2013. Its ultimate goal is to achieve a good condition in the water bodies as required by the Water Framework Directive.

Within this framework, OFITECO will draft 10 projects for water masses in the provinces of León, Salamanca, Ávila, Zamora and Orense, which will mainly include actions to improve the longitudinal connectivity among others.

The awarding of this project accredits OFITECO’s knowledge in river restoration and expands its experience in this field as a designer supported by its participation in the ENRR in other basins, as well as in several regional and local actions.
