Floods, flash floods, and overflows are natural hazards that, over the years, have caused significant material and economic damage, as well as loss of human life. To enable effective preventive management of flood risks, numerous studies and projects have been developed in recent years to identify potentially hazardous areas.
OFITECO offers specialized consulting services focused on the assessment and management of flood risks, aimed at mitigating damage and reducing the negative impacts of flooding. These services are aligned with the objectives of Directive 2007/60/EC.
OFITECO has developed a specific methodology to provide a cartographic base of flood-prone areas, serving as a decision-making tool for land-use planning, territorial management, and the implementation of mitigation measures in flood-risk zones.
The company conducts flood studies based on hydrological and hydraulic modeling, as well as geomorphological analysis. For hydraulic simulations, OFITECO uses a range of specialized software tools and trained personnel. These include one-dimensional models such as HEC-RAS, MIKE11, and Infoworks 1D, and two-dimensional models such as MIKE21, Infoworks 2D, and IBER, along with complementary tools like MIKE FLOOD and ArcGIS.
Engineering and supervision of flood protection works play a key role in reducing risks and minimizing hazards to human and economic activities, the environment, and cultural heritage.
With extensive experience in hydraulic works and river engineering, OFITECO has designed and implemented numerous structural measures for flood protection. These include channeling systems, levees, and flood detention dams.
In addition to traditional hydraulic defense structures, OFITECO has also developed tailored solutions for complex urban environments, where both the constraints and the challenges are typically more demanding.
