The public agency Augas de Galicia awarded OFITECO the contract for the monitoring and surveillance of the Eiras, Baiona, and O Con dams. These dams are three Category A hydraulic infrastructures located in the province of Pontevedra. This initiative will strengthen the technical oversight of their performance and ensure that their condition evolves within the parameters required under current regulations.
The contract focuses on maintaining strict control over key dam‑safety elements through regular supervision of installed instrumentation, systematic analysis of the data obtained, and the preparation of reports aimed at anticipating potential intervention needs. As a result, operators will have more accurate information to support decision‑making and maintenance planning.
Scope of work
The planned activities include updating the inventory of monitoring and automation equipment, periodic data collection, and monthly reviews of recorded readings to verify their coherence and proper operation. In parallel, technical and photographic documentation will be produced for any areas where seepage or carbonate accumulation is detected, allowing close tracking of their evolution.
The project also covers the maintenance of monitoring systems, as well as semi‑annual levelling and triangulation work to ensure adequate geometric control. All results will be compiled in periodic reports on the condition of each dam, that will summarize the main developments and conclusions for the period.
OFITECO’s responsibilities during the contract
OFITECO will be responsible for assessing the existing instrumentation, verifying its reliability, and identifying any deviations requiring attention. Based on observed behaviour and recorded measurements, the company will analyse the data and, when appropriate, propose actions to optimise monitoring or improve the performance of installed equipment.
The company’s work will also include technical recommendations to strengthen the management of monitoring data and support operational staff in applying best practices, particularly regarding data interpretation and continuous surveillance.

With this contract, OFITECO contributes to consolidating a more robust control system for the Eiras, Baiona, and O Con dams.
