OFITECO has been awarded by the Directorate‑General for Water, as part of a joint venture, the contract for the operation, maintenance and improvement of the dams in Zone 3 of the middle Guadiana basin: Cijara, García de Sola, Orellana, La Serena and Zújar, together with the Orellana–Zújar Reversible Hydraulic Tunnel. The contract aims to ensure the safe and efficient operation of these category A dams.

The scope of the service includes advanced operation of the infrastructures, in full compliance with current regulations on dam safety, operation and data protection. Key tasks include electromechanical and civil works maintenance, continual conservation and surveillance through periodic inspections, and technical monitoring based on the systematic collection and analysis of instrumentation data.

The project also incorporates the digitalisation of the technical archive and the implementation of BIM methodology to enhance documentation management and streamline internal processes. Annual technical reports will be prepared, and support will be provided for quality‑related matters and any required adjustments during the execution period.

This contract also strengthens security through the installation and maintenance of advanced video‑surveillance systems, the availability of an incident‑response and the application of emergency protocols. These efforts are complemented by strict compliance with health and safety plans and continuous staff training.

This project marks an important step forward in the modernisation of hydraulic infrastructure management in the Guadiana basin. This enables improved operational efficiency, enhanced incident response and greater sustainability in water resource management.
