OFITECO’s participation in ANCOLD Conference 2026 in Hobart, Tasmania (Australia) provided a new opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience on the future of dam safety. At an international event focused on some of the industry’s key challenges, digitalisation and the effective use of information played an important role as tools for moving towards more efficient and responsive management approaches.
Within this context, Stefan Hoppe from OFITECO presented “A National-Scale Digital Platform for Dam Safety, Emergency Management and BIM: Lessons from 175 State-Owned Large Dams in Spain”. The presentation brought Spain’s experience in applying digital tools and BIM methodology to the integrated safety management of 175 state-owned large dams to an international audience.
From a broad perspective, the presentation explored the value of digital environments capable of bringing together and organising technical information associated with dam infrastructure. It also highlighted how integrating monitoring, maintenance and emergency management data can provide a more consistent overview of dam conditions and deliver useful information to support faster decision-making.
Beyond specific technological solutions, the presentation offered an opportunity to consider the wider role of digital transformation in the evolution of dam safety management. Effectively managing large volumes of information and integrating data within structured environments can improve knowledge of infrastructure condition and support its management throughout the asset lifecycle.
OFITECO’s presence at ANCOLD Conference 2026 strengthens its participation in international technical forums and provides a platform to share its experience in dam safety, monitoring, BIM and the digitalisation of hydraulic infrastructure. At the same time, events such as this encourage knowledge exchange with professionals and organisations facing similar infrastructure challenges around the world.
