Development of a dam management program based on risk analysis

This project has developed a dam management program based on risk analysis for 27 dams of a Basin, including the definition, evaluation and prioritization of safety measures.

The project coordinated by OFITECO, has counted with the participation of the Polytechnic University of Valencia and its spin-off company iPresas

The project aimed to implement an innovative dam safety management program, based on risk analysis techniques, similar to the programs implemented by other international organisms like the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) or the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

The most important technological challenge in the project was developing and validating a methodology for the identification of the dam failure modes, which could be later implemented in a software tool. This tool should be able to reflect effectively and up to date the current state of a dam, allowing an objective comparison of the safety level of several different dams.
